After enduring severe cruelty and neglect in Louisiana, dozens of dogs are finally safe with ARC.

A terrible cruelty case unfolded in the St Helena Parish of Louisiana several days ago. Dozens of caged, chained, and malnourished dogs suffered, many covered in their own waste and with collars so tight that their breathing was affected. Law enforcement jailed one of the property residents and charged her with 27 counts of aggravated and misdemeanor cruelty to animals. Her husband remained at large when ARC deployed to assist.

Without an animal control agency or shelter in the parish, a nearby humane society stepped in to help before ARC arrived. They placed the dogs in a local prison-pet program for daily care. Recognizing that the dogs needed specialized veterinary care and access to national networks, the prison-pet program reached out to ARC for help.

ARC picked up all the dogs as part of Operation Safe Shelter, along with some additional at-risk animals from a local overcrowded Louisiana shelter. Safe at ARC’s Rescue Center, they will receive the individual medical, physical, and social care they need, including specialized feeding programs for malnourished individuals.

Once they are ready, we will match them with and transport them to vetted rescue and shelter partners in high adoption areas – so they can find the loving families they always deserved.

ARC was founded for emergency rescues and to help animals suffering in situations just like this. If you are in a position to help today with a donation to support ARC’s work, please do. Every donation makes a difference.

And, if you are in a position to volunteer, please sign up today. Opportunities are always available in ARC’s Rescue Center outside Nashville, TN, as well as sometimes nationally and beyond. We sometimes offer travel stipends.
