Emergency rescue of 8 dogs abandoned on heavy chains and other confinement

Animal Rescue Corps deployed to Jackson, Tennessee, assisting local law enforcement with the emergency rescue of eight dogs from an abandoned property as part of a cruelty investigation.

A concerned neighbor reported that no one had been seen caring for the dogs for several days. Responders found eight pit bulls, including two puppies, living in unsafe, neglectful conditions. Two were inside the home, while others were chained outdoors or confined to small wooden hutches. There was no food present, and accessible water was contaminated.

Several dogs were underweight and suffering from dehydration, broken teeth, skin lesions, and other signs of prolonged neglect. Evidence on the property indicated a backyard breeding operation, and officials suspect a possible connection to dog fighting.

The City of Jackson Police Department requested ARC’s assistance due to limited local capacity. ARC responders safely removed the dogs, documented evidence, and transported them to the ARC Rescue Center outside Nashville.

“This individual was breeding dogs, and we suspect a possible connection to dog fighting,” said Jackson Animal Services Director Whitney Owen. “We’ve worked with ARC before and are very happy to have their help today.”

Despite their condition, the dogs have shown gentle, social behavior and a desire for human connection.

They are now receiving veterinary care, proper nutrition, and safe shelter at the Rescue Center, where they will remain until they are ready for placement with trusted partners.
