Operation Money Trail: Mass rescue of 46 animals in urgent need

Animal Rescue Corps deployed in response to an urgent call for help from law enforcement in Cheatham County, TN, rescuing 46 surviving animals from a self-described “rescue” organization. After deploying yesterday, the ARC Field Team arrived at the site to discover a grim scene at a place that was supposed to be a refuge for animals.

One of the individuals associated with this rescue had already been arrested and charged with animal cruelty. Authorities allege they starved a five-month-old animal to death, failed to provide proper ventilation for the animals in their care, and raised thousands in donations for medical treatments that were never given, all while animals languished on their sites in Georgia and Tennessee.

Following the arrest and seizure in Georgia, the animals in Tennessee were surrendered. Cheatham County, the area of jurisdiction, is rural and small. It does not have the resources to take in 46 animals all at once, let alone 46 neglected animals in need of specialized care.

But ARC was founded for situation like this one. The team rescued every survivor on scene at the Tennessee property — 37 dogs, 6 chickens, 2 turkeys, and 1 pig.

Sadly, for many of the animals who came to this so-called rescue, their second chance never came. We found the remains of multiple deceased animals on site, along with bones and skulls that bore a silent testimony to neglect and suffering.

For the 46 survivors, their rescue journeys are just beginning. They need the medical, physical, and social care they’ve been deprived of. They need the real second chance that they were promised and denied. To give them that chance, after working to remove every animal from the property, ARC provided transport to our Rescue Center, or other safe care.

Once there, they will receive necessary emergency medical treatment, vaccinations, spay and neuter surgeries, food, shelter, and ongoing rehabilitative care. Once medically and behaviorally stabilized, they will enter ARC’s placement network to prepare for adoption into safe and loving homes.
