Emergency Rescue: Abandoned mother and puppies rescued from hazardous conditions
ARC responded to a plea for help in an emergency rescue from animal shelter authorities in Benton County, TN, who wanted help for a number of dogs who had been dumped in a rural location.
The shelter had nowhere for them to go, but ARC said yes to helping them. In addition to taking in a total of twenty dogs from the dump site, including vulnerable puppies, ARC also pulled six more at-risk dogs from nearby overcrowded shelters.
One of the dogs at the dump site was left there while pregnant- the ultimate betrayal. She gave birth and tried hard to keep her vulnerable family of nine six-week-old puppies alive. Additional puppies around five months old lived on the dump ground, also fighting to survive. One of the puppies vomited up a vertebra after ARC’s Field Team arrived, underscoring their fight for survival and the urgency of this rescue.
The dogs and puppies are receiving medical, physical, and social care at ARC’s Rescue Center, including ringworm treatment and special diets. As they are ready, each one will be matched and transported within ARC’s network of vetted, compassionate placement partners, where they will find the loving homes they’ve always deserved.
ARC was founded for emergency rescues and to help animals suffering in situations just like this one. If you are in a position to help today with a donation to support ARC’s work, please do. Every donation makes a difference.
