CROSSVILLE, TN – Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), a national animal protection nonprofit, rescued 23 dogs, including puppies only a few weeks old, from severely neglectful conditions at a trailer in Cumberland County, about 115 miles east of Nashville, Tenn. All of the dogs were surrendered to Animal Rescue Corps.
ARC responders found 23 small mix-breed dogs running loose on urine-soaked, feces-covered floors and broken furniture with makeshift fencing inside the trailer. Seven young pups, only five weeks old, were found covered in feces. Because of the lack of veterinary care and the unsanitary, inhumane living conditions, the dogs were suffering from internal and external parasites (such as fleas and ticks) and high ammonia exposure. The situation is the result of neglectful breeding of unaltered dogs in a confined space. “The new year will be a fresh start for these dogs and pups” said Amy Haverstick, ARC’s Director of Operations. “Their future is much brighter and I’m happy we were able to assist them.” The planning for this rescue operation began when a concerned citizen reached out to the property occupant and offered to get them help and then reached out to ARC.
This New Year’s Eve rescue, dubbed Operation Countdown, is ARC’s third deployment in the past eight days in Tennessee. Throughout year-end, ARC donors are offering a matching challenge to help support ARC’s work. ARC transported the dogs from the property to ARC’s Rescue Center in Gallatin, Tenn., about 40 minutes east of Nashville. Each animal will receive a thorough veterinary exam, appropriate vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatments until they are matched and transported to trusted shelter and rescue partner organizations that will ultimately adopt them into loving homes. For people wishing to foster or adopt, ARC will publish its list of shelter and rescue placement partners on its Facebook page once the animals are transferred to these groups.
