ARC’s team deployed for the emergency rescue of 16 animals in suspected dog fighting case.
The ARC field team deployed to rural Adams County, Mississippi, responding to an urgent request from law enforcement for help with a suspected cruelty case involving 15 dogs and one rabbit.
Upon arrival, ARC discovered dogs living in deeply concerning condition. Many of them were emaciated and dehydrated. They lived on heavy chains, which wore away the ground in circles from the dragging of their tethers. They had only broken dog houses or barren barrels for shelter.
Many of the older dogs on site suffered from old untreated wounds and scarring. Paraphernalia commonly associated with dog fighting, including suspended tires and bite ropes used for jaw strengthening, was found hanging from trees. Investigators suspected connections to blood sports, and one thing became immediately clear: these dogs needed ARC’s immediate assistance
This was a court-ordered seizure. That means the dogs and rabbit of Operation Underdog will remain in ARC’s care for as long as the legal process requires, whether that’s days, weeks, or months.
During this time, they will rely on Animal Rescue Corps for everything they need. That includes:
- Veterinary care and medical treatment
- Nutritious food, including specialized refeeding diets where medically indicated, and fresh water
- Safe, secure shelter, including soft beds
- Daily enrichment and socialization
- Ongoing care until they can legally move on within our network of trusted shelter and rescue placement partners to find loving homes
