ARC’s team deployed for the emergency rescue of 18 dogs and puppies in Missouri

Responding to an urgent report, the ARC field team deployed to Missouri for an emergency rescue of 18 dogs and puppies. The dogs had been reproducing freely on a property where some lived on chains and some ran loose. Just days before ARC arrived, a puppy was hit by a car in the roadway and killed. With temperature dropping to dangerous levels, these survivors were in urgent need of rescue.

This county had no animal control or local resources to assist with this situation. But taking action in large-scale animal emergencies where no other help exists is exactly why ARC was founded.

On the scene, the field team found:

  • Dogs living on chains
  • Dogs and puppies running loose
  • Parasites
  • Untreated injuries
  • At least one very skinny and pregnant mother dog
  • Inadequate shelter
  • Other conditions common with neglect

This was a situation of uncontrolled reproduction that got out of hand for the property residents, who started out trying to help a family member. They surrendered the 18 dogs and puppies into ARC’s care.

Rescues like this one demand significant resources—emergency shelter, transportation, veterinary treatment, food, supplies, and continued care in the days and weeks ahead. Removing animals from danger is only the first step. For many, the road to recovery is just beginning.

ARC was founded for emergency rescues and to help animals suffering in situations just like this. If you are in a position to help today with a donation to support ARC’s work, please do. Every donation makes a difference.

And, if you are in a position to volunteer, please sign up today. Opportunities are always available in ARC’s Rescue Center outside Nashville, TN, as well as sometimes nationally and beyond. We sometimes offer travel stipends.
