Rescuing Zini and Suri the Ring-Tailed Lemurs

ARC’s mission is rescuing animals in need, especially in situations that are beyond the capacity of local organizations- whatever the species. While handling a cruelty case involving multiple animals in rural Tennessee, local law enforcement recruited the help of local rescues to take in the domestic animals involved. Aware of ARC’s history of helping primates, they reached out ask for our expertise and assistance with the two lemurs, Zini and Suri.
That’s when a mystery started – the lemurs disappeared from the property without law enforcement’s permission. Soon, we discovered a local rescue had taken them before ARC arrived and dropped them off at a local pet store.

Lemurs are wild animals. Keeping them as pets isn’t good for lemurs, and it isn’t good for people either.

Animal Rescue Corps worked with law enforcement to intervene, and picked up Suri and Zini at the pet shop, bringing them to ARC’s Rescue Center for a few days of care before we placed them within our network of nationwide partners. On Monday, ARC’s team set out with Suri and Zini to Oklahoma, where they now begin their new and happy lives with our good friends at Oklahoma Primate Sanctuary.

If you are in a position to help today with a donation to support ARC’s work rescuing animals like Zini and Suri, please do. Every donation makes a difference.

And, if you are in a position to volunteer, please sign up today. Opportunities are always available in ARC’s Rescue Center outside Nashville, TN, as well as sometimes nationally and beyond. We sometimes offer travel stipends.
