The Team
Founder Scotlund Haisley, a 20-year veteran in the field of animal protection, and the establishing members of Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) have more than 40 years of collective experience in animal rescue and protection. Additionally, the ARC staff and our dedicated volunteers possess a wealth of professional expertise in operations, marketing, communications, development and technology, as well as a passionate commitment to the animals we serve.

Scotlund Haisley, President
Scotlund Haisley has been a leader in the animal welfare field for 20 years. He has a unique range of expertise due to his various experiences in management, fundraising, emergency management, innovative shelter design and animal protection. His leadership positions have included President of In Defense of Animals, Senior Director of The Humane Society of the United States Animal Rescue Team, and President of Washington Animal Rescue League. Within the US shelter system, Haisley was Captain of Humane Law Enforcement for the Washington DC Humane Society and the San Francisco Bay area Peninsula Humane Society, and he was shelter Director for the Manhattan, New York City Shelter. Just a few of Haisley’s career highlights include raising six million dollars for the creation of the world’s first completely cage-free animal shelter, post-Katrina rescues of over one thousand animals, rehabilitation for 11 of Michael Vick’s dogs, a year in India creating policies and operating philosophies for animal welfare groups, and almost three years of traveling the globe to rescue an unprecedented number of animals from puppy mills, dog fighting, hoarding, factory farming, other large-scale cruelty cases and multiple natural disasters.

Tim Woodward, Chief Operations Officer
Tim Woodward has a professional career spanning more than 20 years. His expertise is in operations and administration, namely building companies from the ground up by helping to secure capital investments and managing both facilities and human resources. Woodward held integral positions at three financial services startup companies, including Director of Operations and Director of Administration. At In Defense of Animals he was Senior Development Associate where he successfully managed direct mail, and other development efforts responsible for funding the annual budget. Tim is a dedicated animal advocate, personally rescuing and finding homes for many animals before making animal protection his life’s work.

Mark Herrick, CFO & General Counsel
Mark Herrick holds both an MBA and a law degree from the University of San Diego. After obtaining these degrees, he first worked in international corporate finance in both Europe and Japan. While in Japan, Mark’s legal practice expanded into the entertainment industry and he eventually moved to the Los Angeles, California area. Mark then moved to the Silicon Valley to work for ClickAction, a publicly traded internet marketing and services corporation, where he headed the Non-Profit and Political divisions. ClickAction was subsequently, sold to YesMail, at which time Mark founded Herrick & Associates. The new company continued to provide the email, web design and implementation services, and Herrick also picked up his legal practice again giving legal and financial advice to non-profit corporations.

Elaine Hendrix, Director of Marketing & PR
Elaine Hendrix has been a successful actress and producer in Hollywood for nearly two decades. With over 100 film, television and stage credits, Elaine is said to “earn her stripes” by legendary film critic Roger Ebert. In addition to her award winning work in show business, she has received numerous honors for her humanitarian work on behalf of animals. She is actively involved with local and international humane organizations across the country. When not in production, she spends her time traveling to rescue, lobby, testify, protest, educate and build new habitats for domestic animals and wildlife. Elaine is also a published author, international speaker, and advisory board member of the Feel Good Film Festival.

Dr. Lara Cusack, Director of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Lara Cusack holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Prince Edward Island, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Atlantic Veterinary College, graduating with First Class Standing and numerous awards. She completed a post-graduate internship in Wildlife, Avian, and Exotic Animal Medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and has completed numerous additional training programs. Dr. Cusack has spent time working in southern Africa with endangered species, has volunteered with a multitude of local and international projects, and has extensive experience in the teaching and training of students, volunteers, and colleagues. Dr. Cusack has managed field and rescue operations in multiple countries, has extensive experience with field based medicine and emergency sheltering, and has served as liaison with government organizations, NGO’s, veterinary professionals, volunteers, and animal welfare groups.

Karla Goodson, Director of Outreach
Karla Goodson began her career in animal protection while completing her degree in Journalism at the University of Maryland. She volunteered at various animal shelters working as an adoption counselor to exercise, socialize, train, rehabilitate and place animals in permanent homes. After graduation she joined The Humane Society of the United States’ (HSUS) Animal Rescue Team as an animal handler and placement coordinator. While at HSUS she helped oversee emergency shelter operations, including animal care and volunteer management, and facilitated communications and collaborations with rescues and shelters. She also developed and maintained standard operating procedures and other department documents, in addition to placing the thousands of animals rescued during her time at HSUS. In her spare time, Goodson rescues, fosters and rehabilitates dogs, and volunteers with local animal protection groups protesting animal abuse and promoting a vegan lifestyle.
