Oklahoma Disaster Response – May 2011
Animal Rescue Corps deployed members of its field team within hours of receiving a call for help from officials in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The only animal shelter in this community had been completely destroyed by a tornado, but miraculously all the animals had survived. ARC transported the animals to partner shelters in Kansas and Colorado.
While in Oklahoma, ARC received reports of another shelter that had been destroyed by fire in Osage County, Oklahoma. ARC quickly assembled the resources to transport these animals to safety as well. Including a nearby blind horse that was relocated to sanctuary, 72 animals were moved to safety, and the cats and dogs will soon find themselves in foster or adoptive homes.
Placement Partners:
ARC thanks Kansas Humane Society, Foothills Animal Shelter & Animal Humane | New Mexico for accepting dogs & cats from the tornado-destroyed Guthrie Animal Shelter and another fire-destroyed rescue in Oklahoma. These organizations complete ARC’s life-saving work by finding the animals safe and loving homes. We’re proud to call them our partners!
