ARC Board of Directors

Animal Rescue Corps is committed to developing and maintaining a strong and diverse Board of Directors.  Members of the Board of Directors are elected to one-year terms and chosen based on a strong commitment to animal protection and the unique experience each brings from their other work in the corporate, administrative, legal, artistic and non-profit worlds.  The one unifying quality among directors is a dedicated purpose and commitment that each will utilize their talents and networks and bring their independent resources to bear in our collective mission to end animal suffering.

Scotlund Haisley, Chairman of the Board

Scotlund Haisley has been a leader in the animal protection field for 20 years.  He has a unique range of expertise due to his various experiences in management, fundraising, emergency management, innovative shelter design and animal rescue. His leadership positions have included President of In Defense of Animals, Senior Director of The Humane Society of the United States Animal Rescue Team and President of Washington Animal Rescue League.  Within the US shelter system, Haisley was Captain of Humane Law Enforcement for the Washington DC Humane Society and the San Francisco Bay Area Peninsula Humane Society, and he was shelter Director for the Manhattan, New York City Shelter.

Just a few of Haisley’s career highlights include raising six million dollars for the creation of the world’s first completely cage-free animal shelter, post-Katrina rescues of over one thousand animals, rehabilitation for 11 of Michael Vick’s dogs, several months in India and Puerto Rico creating policies and operating philosophies for animal protection groups, and almost three years of traveling the globe to rescue an unprecedented number of animals from puppy mills, dog fighting, hoarding, factory farming, other large-scale cruelty cases and multiple natural disasters.  Haisley was elected as a full‐term board member of the Federation of Humane Societies in 2007, served on the Hill’s Science Diet Shelter Advisory Board from 2005 to 2007, and has been a member of the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators since 2002.

Kristina Bowman, Director

Kristina Bowman is a professional photographer with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University.  Published in numerous books and publications, and having traveled the globe photographing celebrities, royalty, Prime Ministers and Presidents worldwide, Kristina’s specialties extend from society and corporate events to advertising and editorials.

Bowman is an active member of her community serving on many boards and committees:  Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids, Board of Directors (1989-2003); The USA Film Festival, Board of Directors (2003-2006); The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Genesis Awards National Executive Committee (2008-2009); Inaugural HSUS Spotlight Humane Gala, Co-Chair (2010); Friends of Texas Horse Park, Chairman and Board of Directors (2008-present).  She has also been honored with recognitions such as: “Dedication to the Abused Children of Dallas County” from the CAP Center of Dallas (2007 & 2008), “Guinness World Record” for organizing the Dallas portion of the ACTHA National Trail Ride benefiting Equine Rescue (2010), and “Role Model” from American Dog Magazine Humanitarian Awards (2010).

Kristina in based in Dallas with her partner of 20 years and currently has 6 rescued companions: three dogs, two cats, and a Quarter Horse; as well as a steady stream of foster animals.

Elaine Hendrix, Director

Elaine Hendrix has been a successful, award-winning actress and producer in Hollywood for over two decades. Through hard work, diversity and a creative prowess all her own, Elaine is said to have “earned her stripes” by legendary film critic Roger Ebert, having over 100 film, television and stage credits under her belt.  Her company EHx Productions produces media for all genres.

In addition to her award-winning work in show business, she has received numerous honors for her humanitarian work on behalf of animals. A few of those include: a Telly Award for hosting “Pets 90210,” the Guardian Award from the National Animal Rights Conference, and a Key to the City as well as a Proclamation naming December 4 “Elaine Hendrix Day” in the city of St. Louis, Missouri.

Elaine is also a published author, international speaker as well as advisory board member of The Sirens Society (2011-present), board member for Stray Rescue of St. Louis (2011-present), advisory board member of the Feel Good Film Festival (2009-present), Honorary Committee Member of the Genesis Awards (2007-present) and an active member of Women in Film (2002-present.)  Originally from East Tennessee, she currently resides in Los Angeles with her five rescued companions.

Karen O’Connell, Director

Karen O’Connell began her career at IBM working directly with Fortune 100 companies, and leading a team of brand specialists on Wall Street for over a decade.  In 2005 Karen left IBM to become the business manager for the MUTTS brand (www.muttscomics.com).

Karen is board secretary for St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare in Madison, NJ and serves on the board of directors for The Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, CA.  Karen is also a member of One Hundred Women Making A Difference, and a Founding Friend of the Wild for The Wildlife Land Trust.

Karen is a long time animal advocate, vegetarian/vegan for over 20 years and has close relationships with animal protection and animal rights organizations throughout the world.  She is married to MUTTS cartoonist and author Patrick McDonnell, and together they are guardians of several rescued companion animals.

Tim Woodward, Director

Tim Woodward is highly experienced in operations and administration with a professional career that spans more than two decades.  Specializing in building companies from the ground up, Woodward has worked with start-up corporations to help them secure capital investments and also manage their facilities and human resources.

Woodward held integral positions, including Director of Operations and Director of Administration, at three financial services startup companies, and while at GetSmart.com, Woodward played a vital role in the company’s successful acquisition by Providian Financial.

At In Defense of Animals (IDA), Woodward was Senior Development Associate, a position in which he managed direct mail, online fundraising and many more development efforts. Woodward was also fundamental in obtaining the financial resources to fund their annual $3M budget. While at IDA, Woodward facilitated the implementation of list growth and other strategies that contributed to a more than 100% increase in their online fundraising for 2009.

Woodward is a proud vegan and dedicated animal advocate. He spent several years personally rescuing and finding homes for dozens of animals before ultimately making animal protection his life’s work.
