ANIMAL RESCUE CORPS RESCUES DOGS LIVING WITH A MAN IN NATCHEZ TRACE STATE PARK

Operation Resolution Part Four:  January 8th, 2016

ASP_8279Wildersville, TN – Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) is in Tennessee assisting multiple law enforcement agencies in addressing cases of animal neglect and abandonment across the state. Today ARC assisted in the rescue of 31 dogs living deep in the woods of Natchez Trace State Park, about 120 miles northeast of Memphis, with a man who has been living outdoors in West Tennessee for sixteen years. After recent health issues, he accepted the help of community members and ARC to find homes for himself and the dogs he has been caring for in the woods.

ASP_8346The dogs of various sizes and breeds were living exposed to the elements and running loose in a pack. Three of the dogs exhibited signs of serious leg injuries, some had broken teeth and lacerations, none had been vaccinated, and all had internal and external parasites, such as ticks.

“Members of the community have been working with this man to improve his way of life and this rescue is part of it,” said ARC President Scotlund Haisley. “He wasn’t going to abandon the dogs and accept the help for himself without first finding a group to take the dogs. We are very glad to be able to assist.”

ARC transported the dogs to an emergency shelter in Lebanon, TN, about 40 minutes east of Nashville that was set up for this rescue, dubbed Operation Resolution Part Four, and the three cases addressed earlier this week in Clay, Hardeman, and Hardin Counties. Each of the more than 100 animals rescued this week will receive a thorough veterinary exam, appropriate vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatment. ARC will provide daily care until the animals are placed with shelter and rescue organizations that will ultimately adopt them into loving homes. For people wishing to foster or adopt, ARC will publish its list of shelter and rescue placement partners on its Facebook page once the dogs are transferred to these groups.

ASP_8628Animal Rescue Corps performed Operation Resolution Part Four in conjunction with Compassion in Action of Tennessee. Montgomery County Animal Control loaned their transport trailer to bring the animals to the safety of ARC’s emergency shelter, Goofy Foot Dog Rescue provided logistical expertise, and Novamet Speciality Products in Lebanon generously donated the building for the emergency shelter.  The BISSELL Pet Foundation provided critical financial support.
