Illustrator Guy Gilchrist Teams Up with ARC to Help Dogs in Need
by Chelsea Myers
Animal Rescue Corps has been fortunate enough to partner with the award-winning writer, illustrator and musician Guy Gilchrist for some very special creative and fundraising projects. He is best known for sketching the first ever line drawings of Jim Henson’s Muppets, for his work on the classic comic strip Nancy, and as the creator of the humorous and heartwarming comic, Today’s Dogg, but he also has a great passion for animal rescue, adoption, and welfare.
The ARC Team met Guy in Nashville, TN during the Warren County puppy mill rescue in late March 2011. After the rescue, Guy illustrated and donated exquisite, original portraits of the Warren Co. rescued dogs that were auctioned off on March 29 to raise money for ARC. Every penny made from the auction worked to further ARC’s lifesaving efforts in Warren Co., where we rescued 121 dogs and 5 exotic birds from the abysmally grave puppy mill conditions.
Guy also used his artistry to raise awareness and promote the adoption of animals rescued from the puppy mill. He published a special edition of the beloved Nancy comic dedicated to the cause, and devoted the entire week of April 11 of Today’s Dogg to those rescued from Warren County.
“ARC celebrates when people couple their compassion with their personal skills and find creative ways to benefit animals and bring attention to important issues like puppy mills,” said ARC President Scotlund Haisley.
ARC was privileged to have Guy’s support for our mission in Tennessee. Now, in an overwhelmingly generous gesture, Guy has continued his pledge to help ARC far into the future.
A portion of proceeds from his new hit book, The Best of Today’s Dogg, as well as downloads of the beautifully inspiring song, “Take Me Home,” which he co-wrote with Joel Brentlinger and 4-time Grammy nominee Jamie O’Neal, will go toward the advancement of ARC’s work to rescue animals from cruelty and disaster situations.
“Animal Rescue Corps saves lives. Behind the smiles and laughs of Today’s Dogg, we have the same mission,” said Guy Gilchrist.
ARC is honored and proud to have Guy on board.
